Located in the county of West-Norfolk, England, RAF Downham Market was an important tactical Second World War bomber station, during July 1942 to March 1944, RAF Downham Market came under the administration of 3 Group Bomber Command.

 

The first of three front line 3 Group squadrons to be stationed there was 218 Gold Coast Squadron who moved into the newly built station during early July 1942 remaining until early March 1944.

Our Events Trailer now wrapped and ready to go. The Trust wish to thank Laura and Jason of CGM Designs for their help and support working with us upon the designs, without whom we would not have the striking visual impact we have and to Johnny Clifford giving permission for use of the photographs.  Our day at Wallington Hall was very successful, lots of interest was shown for our Memorial Project a very big 'Thank You' is extended to all those who gave most generously to our request for support on the day and to everyone who chatted with us giving us information about their relatives and friends who served at RAF Downham Market, and to Andy Moore for coming along and speaking with visitors his enthusiasm is infectious and for sharing his knowledge of the airfield and to Mark and Nick for all their hard work behind the scenes and on the day ensuring everything was in the right place.

 

The images were taken very early on the day of the 19 August we had a 6.30am start which began a very interesting and successful day at Wallington Hall.

The guys 'In Action'  the first stage towards achieving our goal has now begun.  A special thank you to Colin Horton, Nick and Mark for all their hard work on Saturday getting the foundation trench dug and our memorial project visibly underway, our methodical planning and preparations combined with the continued help of our supporters world-wide will ensure we reach our goal.

 

Details of our forthcoming events will be updated within the next few days, come and meet us and learn more about our exciting project and see our stunning 8 feet scale memorial model.

An enormous thank you to all those who made Saturday's Event a success, despite the weather a good time was had by all, and to the many visitors who braved the weather to come and chat with us.  A special thank you to the Veteran Henry Wagner for coming along with his driver  Steve Drawbridge, Stephen Darlow, author, Kelvin and Jane Edgar, Vince and Vanessa Edwards, Jonathan Chapman, Adrian and Darren Creasey,  Bob & Jean Fleming, Bob Taylor, Jean Adams, Jane Allen, Karen Hills, Gwen and Chris Bunting , Magpie Centre, Nick Martin, Mark Oliver and Andy Moore whose talk people are still talking about, the support you all gave and continue to give is invaluable and much appreciated by all.

 

Thank you to Rob Scott of Cabins Unlimited for the wonderful Memorial Cabin and to Downham Home and Garden for their support and the delicious Wartime Themed Lunch.  My apologies to anyone I have missed.

 

Importantly a message to all those who served at and failed to return to RAF Downham Market.

' For your bravery and dedication we honour you, for your sacrifice, we remember you' for our Freedom we Thank You.'

 

A total was raised on the day to-date is £344.23 donations are still arriving for which the RAF Downham Market Memorial Trust Thank You your support is vital in enabling us to bring our goal closer.
